"Zap! You're Beautiful!" Excerpts from the Fabulous Book...
Chapter One: Skin Characteristics -
The ideal skin is clear of blemishes. It is elastic, resilient, soft, and glistening with natural moisture. The common expression "peaches and cream complexion," encompasses all the natural characteristics, of lovely skin. The skin should have a healthy, attractive glow without the benefit of cosmetics. We tend to forget the beauty of natural-looking skin, especially in women, because our culture encourages the use of cosmetics, from the adolescent years.
The earliest evidence of aging begins in our twenties, when wrinkles begin to appear under the eyelids, and at the outer canthus of the eyelids - the first stage of "crows feet." Even at twenty, skin tone can deteriorate, due to a number of physiological abuses; excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, drugs, poor eating habits, over working, or lack of sleep. Then too, there are skin diseases, such as acne, that may destroy the quality of the skin. In addition, the poor quality of cosmetics, or the excessive use of cosmetics, destroys the healthy skin. As we grow older, general physical conditions may affect us, such as the presence of debilitating diseases (cancer, tuberculosis, diabetes). These are all factors determining the quality of our skin.
There are several remedies for the onset of aging skin. There are numerous medical corrections, that delay the visual effects of aging. It is always refreshing to see an older person who has relatively wrinkle-free skin. It is possible! The secret is finding the person who can offer expert help to make it possible!
By definition, that person is Gary Jay Barsky, M.D.
Chapter Two: Skin Cancer Moles and Other Growths -
Most of us have discolorations and/or growths on our skin. Many of these growths appear as brown, or red spots. Dr. Barsky routinely evaluates and treats, such benign skin growths. Among these growths are nevi (moles), skin tags (excess pieces of skin), lentigos (freckles), and keratoses (a type of skin growth).
Nevi are collections of nevus cells, which are similar to the melanocyte, or pigment-producing cells. These cells often accumulate, in the dermal layer of the skin. Melanocytes normally are scattered across the epidural unit, and are responsible for skin color. Nevi normally appear during childhood, enlarge during adult life, and involute as we near our sixties. Often nevi may manifest themselves, as flat areas of increasingly darker pigmentation. Over time, the nevi will gradually rise and elevate above the skin. At that time, nevi can be skin colored, and they are felt, rather than seen. It is then, that most people wish to have nevi removed.
Any growth suspected of being a melanoma (a skin cancer), or a dysplastic nevus (a nevus that is irregular in size, shape, or color), should always be biopsed, by Dr. Barsky.
This is extremely important to note! Undetected melanoma can be fatal!
Laser treatment by Dr. Barsky can help correct Broken Blood Vessels, Warts, Recurrent Herpes Simplex, Liver Spots, Keloids, Benign Growths and Old Age Spots. He also offers MOHS Surgery for Skin Cancer. MOHS surgery is an outpatient surgical procedure that allows for the highest cure rate for skin cancer! Chapter Four: Laser Skin Resurfacing : From Burn to Breathtaking -
As your body ages, the effects of the sun, pollution, smoking, alcohol consumption and stress take their toll on your skin. You begin to see fine lines appear, around your eyes and lips.
Then with a decrease in collagen production, within your skin, you will start to see those lines turn into deeper wrinkles. At the same time, your skin loses its elasticity, causing it to sag.
You see, most traditional moisturizers only treat the symptoms of aging skin. You may see a temporary fix, but none of them can actually renew your skin's youthful glow.
This because the way to erase wrinkles and lines, is to smooth the skin, and tighten it, at the same time! This is just what laser resurfacing, and Dr. Barsky, can do for you!
Chapter Five: Laser Birthmark and Tattoo Removal
Birthmarks vary. They come in reds, browns, purple, strawberry...Some birthmarks are even elevated above the surface of the skin. When they cover a large area, on the hands or face, the birthmarks can be psychologically damaging, to those who suffer from them.
Port Wine Stains, Angiomas, Brown Birth Marks and Tatoos are all treatable with laser treatment by Dr. Barsky.
Chapter Six: Laser Stretch Mark and Scar Removal
Stretch marks are a weak area, in the supporting structure of the skin, that allows the layers of the ski to separate, leaving the skin grooved and discolored. Typically, stretch marks on the skin appear as white, red, purple, or brown depressed streaks. They are frequently located on the upper arms, shoulders, breasts, back, abdomen, hips, and thighs. The medical name for stretch marks is striae.
It is thought that pregnancy, body building, and weight loss are the leading causes of stretch marks.
In recent years, most stretch marks have been treated by laser, in Dr. Barskys extensive laser surgery clinics.
Chapter Seven: Sclerotherapy or How Can You Be so Vein?
Mature men and women, frequently develop tiny surface blood vessels, over the facial region. As we age, extra small blood vessels, called telangiectasia, appear on the surface of the skin. These telangiectasia come by degree. Those with skin types I, II and III, develop small blood vessels more often, than those with other skin types.
Following laser treatment of telangiectasia, the patient is normally healed, within one week. However, it is not necessary to miss work or social appointments, in order to have telangiectasia treated by laser.
